Q4 Starts Now: How to Finish the Year Strong

September 30, 2026

There are two kinds of agents in the fourth quarter. One coasts into the holidays, lets the pipeline thin out, and starts January cold. The other treats these last thirteen weeks as the setup for their best year yet.

The difference between them is rarely effort in December. It is what they do right now, before Q4 even begins. Here is the playbook.

Reopen every stalled quote

Go through the year's quotes that never closed. Every one of them is warmer than a cold call, and in this market, most of those prospects have received a renewal increase since you last spoke. A simple check-in, mentioning that rates have moved a lot this year and offering to run fresh numbers, revives deals you had written off. Some of the easiest business you will write this quarter is sitting in your old quote list.

Schedule your annual reviews

If annual reviews are part of your practice, and they should be, Q4 is a natural season for them. Clients are already in a year-end frame of mind, and reviews consistently surface new vehicles, home changes, side businesses, and coverage gaps. Every review protects a renewal, and many produce an additional policy. Block the calendar now, because unscheduled reviews do not happen.

Talk to your business clients before December

Small business owners spend Q4 thinking about the year ahead, and often meeting with their accountants. It is the perfect moment to review their coverage: payrolls change, vehicles get added, new locations open, and next year's plans have insurance implications. Being the agent who brings this up proactively, rather than at a scrambled renewal, is exactly what keeps commercial accounts for the long haul.

Get ahead of January renewals

January renewals go out during the holidays, when nobody is watching. Look at them now. Requote the ones with painful increases before your clients ever see the number. The agent who calls in early December with options beats the renewal notice that arrives between Christmas and New Year's, every time.

Review your own numbers

You ask clients to review annually. Do the same for your agency. How many quotes did you run this year, and how many closed? Where did your best clients come from? Which carriers won the most business? What was your retention rate? An hour with your own numbers will tell you exactly what to do more of next year, and turns goal-setting from guesswork into strategy.

Do not disappear in December

You do not need to grind through the holidays. But the agents who keep even a light rhythm going, a few follow-ups, a few reviews, a visible presence, capture the business that everyone else's absence leaves on the table. January belongs to whoever kept moving in December.

The strong finish is really a strong start

Everything on this list finishes this year and feeds next year at the same time. That is the nature of this business: the work compounds if you let it.

And if part of your year-end review is admitting that your current model, your split, or your lack of ownership is the real ceiling on next year, that is worth acting on too. Visit our Get Started page, and let's make next year the one where the business you build is actually yours.
